Chuck Amuck

I almost forgot what drawings for an animated cartoon should look like until I started regularly looking at the Chuck Redux blog. I was worried that the site would be a valentine to Jones highlighting mediocre artwork from his later years (when he forgot to draw Bugs Bunny’s neck), but I was happily mistaken. Like the above Broomstick Bunny layout, the blog has been featuring some absolute gems from Jones’s richest period as an artist. And don’t forget to check out Jones’s letters to his daughter Linda!

  1. This layout drawing showcases the brilliance of Chuck Jones.

  2. I have to agree Larry. Put this next to ANYTHING done for a cartoon done in recent times and you’ll know exactly what is wrong with animation today.

  3. I particularly like his letter of May 18, 1953. Did Jones have such a low opinion of Bob McKimson it was like he didn’t exist? Sheesh.

  4. Jim, my dates may be wrong, but McKimson may have been laid off at that time.

  5. There are beautiful drawings on that site. Fantastic stuff.
