I was thrilled to read that my favorite Famous Studios series is getting its own DVD release, but I thought the cover art was a little bland, classic Harvey Comics cover it may be. I did some asking around, and I not only managed to get the real cover art, but the back cover too! Contents are subject to change, but I sure hope not, this sounds like the release of a lifetime as is.

    Well, we can dream,can’t we?

I love that back cover! “Holy Shit!” indeed. Thad, it’s too bad the studios don’t ask you to write these DVD covers for real. I’d buy that disk just due to the enthusiastic sales pitch on that cover! (And you know how I feel about the Famous Studios product.) Unfortunately, the writing on your ersatz cover is funnier than any of the cartoons that are contained within.

It’s not fake. What makes you guys think it is?

  4. The term “Buzzy the Funny Negro” perhaps? Or the description “Herman killing cats who aren’t Katnip”?

  5. Uncle John

I rented a DVD called ‘Hymen & Catnip’ from a back alley video store the other night. Turns out-totally different movie! BTW-the guy above ain’t me.

  6. Get real, John V. After Katnip, SOMEBODY had to die.

Meanwhile, I never thought an actual corporate product could sum up my guiding principle so perfectly! I’m flattered. I’m thrilled. I’m slightly suspicious, even.

Thad, you’re a fucking genius. The back cover definitely made my day.

  8. I believe it! It must be real!

Back cover: Bob Jakes ? Dhave Gerstein ?

And since when is John K ever noted as being the creator of The Ripping Friends? Usually R&S is mentioned.

Apparently the lost scene where Buzzy eats a watermelon filled with dynamite is included in the set

  12. Adam: Only after he’s carried it out of a burning cabin.

Uncle John: I’m going to hear “Cousin Hymen” when I watch the shorts from now on.
